Founded by the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Organization in 2010, the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst Quartet was hailed by The New York Times at its Carnegie Hall debut as “invariably energetic and finely burnished… playing with earthy vigor.” The ensemble has toured widely throughout the United States and abroad, with sold-out performances at the Kennedy Center, Chicago’s Harris Theater, and Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.
The Quartet’s largest ongoing project, UNCOVERED, is a multi-volume recording series celebrating composers of color whose works have been overlooked by the traditional canon, with its third volume earning a 2023 Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. Deeply committed to education and outreach, Catalyst has served as principal faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy and led residencies from the Cleveland Institute of Music to Havana, Cuba.
“Like all great chamber groups, the Catalyst Quartet is beautiful to watch, like a family in lively conversation at the dinner table: anticipating, interrupting, changing subjects.” – The New York Times
