Russian pianist Zlata Chochieva is celebrated worldwide by critics and audiences as one of the most extraordinary artists of her generation, praised for combining “the overwhelming power of Martha Argerich with the subtle, refined tonal sensitivity of her mentor Mikhail Pletnev.” A protégée of Pletnev at Moscow’s Central Special Music School, she went on to study with Pavel Nersessian at the Moscow State Conservatory and Jacques Rouvier at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
Chochieva first performed in public at age four and made her orchestral debut at seven, playing a Mozart concerto at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Since then, she has appeared on the world’s leading stages, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and has won top prizes in more than 15 international piano competitions. Her recording of the Chopin Études was named by Gramophone as one of the ten greatest Chopin recordings ever made.
“Chochieva, though, is the real discovery…performances of huge emotional scope and intense drama.” – The Guardian
